Event Details

Expand your horizons with the monthly Conservation Café series. We will discuss science, nature, policy, journalism, art, spirituality, justice, and so much more as we explore all the ways that people work towards conservation and environmental protection. Meet and learn from inspiring speakers and ask them questions live.
Click the link for each event below to see more information and register. Cafés are held Jan – June and Sep – Nov. All programs run via Zoom, 7-8:30 pm.
Registration fees ($5-15) go to support our ANS Conservation Program! Registrants will receive a link to the recording within a few days of the talk; it will later be made available on this page to the public.
- The Story of Streams – Thursday, September 22 – Hear from Conservation Director Eliza Cava about ANS’ new report on the health of three local streams – Oxon Run, Holmes Run, and the Northwest Branch. How are they doing? The data tell a mixed story. But YOU can help write the ending!
- America the Beautiful For All – Wednesday, October 19 – Join Mariana Del Valle Prieto Cervantes, Director of Strategic Initiatives at GreenLatinos, to learn about this powerful new coalition that reflects the diversity of America and centers the voices of people of color working to conserve 30% of our public lands, waters, and ocean by 2030. The political power necessary to accomplish the twin goals of conservation and environmental justice rests entirely on our ability to shift power, grow, and cultivate a united environmental community that truly represents America. We are stronger and more effective when we work together.
- What is a Land Acknowledgment Really All About? – Thursday, November 17 – Join Rico Newman, Elder of the Choptico Band of Piscataway Conoy, as he acknowledges and thanks the land for its blessings and then teaches about what a land acknowledgment is, who “should” do them, why and how to do them, what it means to do a land acknowledgment well, and what not to do. This talk is geared at a non-Native audience but those with experience and expertise are welcome to contribute their own perspectives as well.
