Memorial Bench for Glenda Mohr
at the Audubon Naturalist Society's Woodend Nature Sanctuary
To Glenda’s friends and family;

Thanks to the generosity of so many, Glenda Mohr’s Memorial Bench is now in place along the accessible trail at Woodend Nature Sanctuary. The setting is one she would have loved. Next spring the new wildflower meadow opposite her bench will be blooming.
Audubon Naturalist Society’s Woodend Nature Sanctuary is a short walk through the woods from Glenda’s home with Peter and Emma in Silver Spring. This Memorial Bench is a place for all of us to visit and contemplate Glenda’s wonderful spirit. Glenda thrilled over every tree and flower, insect, bird and wild animal. Emma spent many hours of her childhood at the ANS nature camp and she will find there a lifetime of activities including classes, gardening, nighttime owl walks, and making new friends.
The bench is in a prominent location where everyone who visits Woodend will see it. The grounds have been completely renovated to increase the natural wild plants and to provide accessibility for everyone. The bench had to wait for this enormous project to be completed. And, at last, here it is!
Peter, Emma and I decided to write “Glenda Mohr” on the plaque (rather than Glenda Shasho-Jones) because Glenda often used that name here in Maryland, and Mohr is now Emma’s last name. Emma wrote the memorial text. The plaque pictured is a facsimile until the bronze one arrives.
I believe that all of us will be proud to see that this tribute to Glenda is helping to support Woodend Nature Sanctuary. It will always be here with its many programs for adults and children to learn, enjoy, and protect the wild plants and animals that Glenda loved.
From the beginning, we felt that people who loved Glenda would like to be part of this tribute. There is still an opportunity to contribute a tax-deductible donation to the fund for Glenda’s Bench.

And stay tuned for a gathering here in honor of our beloved Glenda.
As many of you know, our dear friend Glenda, who had been fighting lung cancer for the last five years, passed away on November 16th. True to her tenacious nature, she faced her illness with her trademark vitality and humor. Though she was taken from us too soon, she managed to pack 120 years of living into the time she had been given.
We all met and came to know Glenda from the various strains of her immense life - Motherhood, marketing, Washington DC, New York City, and Silver Spring. An accomplished businesswoman, Glenda was a leader and innovator in the field of Direct Marketing through her firm, Shasho-Jones Direct.
Glenda openly gave of herself to friends, family or anyone who simply asked, whether it was with savvy business advice, financial aid, opening her beautiful home on 25th Street (a.k.a Hotel Glenda) to anyone who needed a place to stay, or simply a shoulder to cry on.
Glamorous and earthy in even measure, Glenda was equally at ease at a black tie party as she was digging for worms her pet reptiles. An ardent spa devotee and a fan of fine dining, Glenda was also a balabusta who often entertained many of us in her kitchen as the fine wine flowed.
Glenda was the adoring mother of Emma who brought immense joy and light into her life. She was also a loving partner to Peter Mohr, whose dedication to Glenda in these last few years was unparalleled, and to whom she has entrusted Emma Miriam Mohr as her father. She was a devoted sister to Amy and Taryn Fishman and an aunt, cousin and dear friend and colleague to so many of us.
She brought light, joy and energy wherever she went. She delighted in her garden and in creatures of all sorts. It is in that spirit we thought it most fitting to commemorate Glenda’s life and our love for her by honoring her love of nature.
